For the entirety of her 22-year career, Gen Hicks has supported architects and designers in marketing, communications, and business administration. Gen possesses a keen understanding of the business of architecture having held roles within the AEC industry with titles such as Director of Marketing, Business Manager, and Studio Coordinator.

Design, especially architecture and interior design, are fundamental to her essence. The daughter of a recognized architect, she grew up immersed in design, art, culture, and beauty. Gen developed a passion for design early in life and it remains consistent to this day.

She’s merged her love of design and writing, developing a well-honed and approachable storytelling and visual communication style. She is known for creating proposals, award submissions, graphics, and presentations that are creative, cohesive, and compliant to branding and client/industry requirements.

Gen has been employed by many firms recognized for design excellence, and has worked as a consultant since 2014, leveraging her diverse skill set resulting in increased visibility, recognition, and productivity for firms and design professionals in the western US. She works with and represents architects, interior designers, interior stylists, photographers, editors and journalists, furniture designers, makers, landscaping professionals, and architectural product representatives as an independent contractor.

Her community involvement confirms her commitment to increasing awareness of the built environment and educating future architects. Gen has worked to support the efforts of the Denver Architecture Foundation and the American Institute of Architects. After the death of her father in 2020, she established the Michael J. Hicks, AIA Legacy Scholarship at the University of Colorado, College of Architecture and Planning which is awarded annually until 2032.

Her professional portfolio is a varied, yet comprehensive compilation of projects completed with or on behalf of employers and clients, showcasing expertise as a marketer, writer, and stylist.
